New Search - Please Read

We're working on a more comprehensive explanation of the new search capabilities here at The Liner Notes Project, but the short version is this:

  • The old search was limited to a single TYPE — you could search for a person (artist, musician, producer, etc.), a title (album or song), OR a record label.
  • The new search allows for a combination of these types. So instead of entering “John Mayer”, for example, viewing all of his albums, and opening the one you hope has the song “Daughters”, you can now simply type “john mayer daughters” and you’ll be presented with a more narrow and filtered result set.
  • This applies to *ALL* types. If you want to see all albums on which Miles Davis played with Bill Evans, enter “miles davis bill evans” and you’ll get the results. Or enter “david sanborn blue note” to find all recordings on the Blue Note label that featured David Sanborn.
  • If you want to see results of a compound search a bit faster, you can separate search terms with double quotes or, as a convenient shortcut, use a forward slash (/) between them. Using the above examples, you could enter
    • john mayer / daughters *OR* "john mayer" daughters
    • miles davis / bill evans *OR* "miles davis" "bill evans"
    • blue note / david sanborn *OR* "blue note" "david sanborn"

A forward slash and double quotes provide hints to the search algorithm and enable it to return results more efficiently.

There’s a lot more to it, and as I said, more documentation with examples is coming soon. Please check it out and let me know what you think at feedback@thelinernotesproject.com
